Cass Art – A Very different Shop

Cass Art, the UK’s leading independent art supplies retailer, opened its doors on Glasgow’s Queen Street in October. But what is it that makes it different to other art shops? The ultimate difference is that Cass Art is about art for all; about engaging with the artist community and inspiring everyone to make and do art. “We want to encourage everybody to make art,” says Mark Cass, the Founder and CEO. “And we want to support those who are already doing so. We believe that being an artist, in whatever capacity, should remain a lifelong pursuit.”

To enable art to be created at all levels, Cass Art offers the world’s best art materials at the guaranteed lowest prices. This is also matched with their ongoing price promise; if a customer finds a product that can be found cheaper elsewhere, Cass Art will refund the difference. Innovative new products from Watercolour Markers to Water-Mixable Oil Paints by the world’s leading brands are also stocked as part of Cass Art’s commitment to making the creative process accessible and exciting. Cass Art also offers exclusive discounts to students across the UK and – for the first time – for Art & Design tutors, teachers and therapists across the country to make art even more affordable for those who sustain art as a force in society.

Cass Art offers a shopping experience that is unique worldwide. The Glasgow shop builds on Pentagram’s designs for Cass Art’s existing London shops to transform a listed Glasgow building, previously a dark clothing shop, into a light environment filled with colour. The shop also includes an Art Space, which will support the local creative community by hosting workshops and art events, as well as exhibitions. The shop floor also includes a Try Me Table, so that all artists can test the products before they buy them.

Finally, all Cass Art staff are artists, so that they are able to offer expert advice on any creative project, and empathise with the artistic endeavours of all those who visit the shop.

Cass Art’s resources also extend beyond the art materials in their shops, with How To blogs and videos available at

Cass Art also give opportunities beyond doing art – so that customers can also see art and culture for less. The Cass Art Winter Art Offers leaflet is now available with any purchase and includes Free Popcorn when you go to see the much – acclaimed Mike Leigh film, Mr. Turner, as well as 2 for 1 tour tickets at Glasgow School of Art, and 30% off a National Art Pass.

This is part of Cass Art’s ongoing commitment to partner with leading galleries and institutions such as London’s National Portrait Gallery and Tate to ensure that art and culture thrive across the UK.
