Fine dining goes public at Western Club Restaurant

If you enjoy delicious food and fine wine – and who doesn’t – come along and indulge yourself at the Western Club Restaurant.

Classic and contemporary cuisine is served with an elegant flourish within the portals of Glasgow’s oldest and only remaining private members club.

But rest assured, the restaurant, the result of a partnership between the club and veteran restaurateur Alan Tomkins, is open to the public.

And since its launch last November, a growing number of discerning diners have enjoyed superb food in a stylish setting and relaxed atmosphere.

Calmness and elegance are the watchwords here.

Alan, the man behind institutions such as Gamba, Vronis and Urban Bar and Grill has been influential in shaping Glasgow’s food scene over the past 30 years.

He said: “The minute I walked into the Club’s dining room I instantly knew it would make the most fantastic restaurant.

“With views over what is arguably, Glasgow’s most beautiful square and the stunning buildings created by Glasgow’s merchants of the past, I could envisage today’s business leaders doing deals in this space and diners enjoying its elegance.

“Working with internationally renowned designer Amanda Rosa, we have brought all of that history and grandeur up to date with a contemporary, stylish design which makes the most of the location, scale and proportions of the room.

“It is a truly exciting opportunity to bring this dining experience, in this exceptional location, to the public for the first time.”

The kitchen is run by Peter Wilson, formerly Chef at Lochgreen House and Piersland House in Troon and serves contemporary classic food using the very best seasonal Scottish ingredients.

The restaurant will be celebrating Easter with a new range of lunch and dinner menus – so why not join in for a truly memorable meal.

A range of menu options is available, including the lunch and early dinner Market Menu with two courses at £16.95 and three at £18.95.

It boasts delights such as breast of chicken, sweet and sour cabbage, Dauphinoise potato and roasted root vegetables in a red wine sauce with sticky toffee pudding, butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream to follow.

The finest Scottish ingredients are at the heart of the A La Carte menu.

Treat yourself to ballotine of rabbit, forest mushroom ketchup, curly kale and pickled carrots as a starter then tenderloin of Buccleuch beef, braised ox cheek, chateau potatoes, white onion puree in a red wine reduction.

If you have any room left, try a delicious dessert such as carrot and walnut sponge with citrus crème cheese and heather honey custard.

Groups of 10 or more can opt for the Large Party Menu. Journey through a tantalising selection of dishes including crispy duck egg, black pudding and celeriac remoulade, rump of Argyle lamb, barley risotto, baby onions, minted peas and pineapple frangipane flan for only £34.99 per person.

If your palate is jaded, or you want to expand your dining horizons, why not opt for the restaurant’s seven-course tasting menu.

Experts will lead you on a guided tour through the finest of Scottish provender.

Delicious food is best savoured in surroundings that lend themselves to its enjoyment.

The sumptuous and luxurious ambience of the Western Club Restaurant will transport you to a different place – perhaps the finest dining experience in the city.

Reviews of the new restaurant have been uniformly positive.
